What is the course about?
The Green Star SA Accredited Professional Course is the core educational offering of the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA).  The course provides a comprehensive overview of sustainability and green building taking participants through the GBCSA’s Green Star SA rating system for buildings which is a tool for the objective measurement of the environmental performance of design and construction phases of new buildings and major refurbishments.  The course provides insight into all major aspects of green building design and offers practical examples of applying Green Star SA tools to building projects.  It emphasizes the necessity of an integrated approach from the consulting team in order to achieve the rating pursued.

What is the course format?
The course format is that of a fluid interaction between lecture, Q&A, case study examples and in-depth exploration of each category and credit in the Green Star SA rating system. 

Who should attend?
Multidisciplinary, progressive professionals who want to learn more about sustainability, “green” building and the Green Star SA building rating system. Those who wish to obtain an Accredited Professional designation should complete this course and then pass an examination (which can be done at any time post completing the course).

ETIENNE LOUW (B. BUILD., (PE), B.ARCH (CT), Assoc. AIA., RIBA., LEED), South African trained architect and Emeritus Principal of Lionakis (large architectural practice in California) will base his full-day Workshop on “Building the Culture and Structure in Your Firm from the Top Down and the Bottom Up” and the following items will be discussed during the Workshop:

1. The importance of establishing a Mission Statement, Vision and Core values for your firm.  Examples are shown.
2. In HR, attracting, rewarding and retaining talent in your office is discussed, together with clear expectations, roles and responsibilities.  Examples reviewed.
3. In Finance, defining the positions in your firm and linking them to hourly and utilization rates to establish multipliers for your firm is the bedrock on which budgets and profitability firm-wide is measured.  Examples are worked through.  
4. In Marketing, the linkage back to the Mission, Vision and Core Values is discussed.
5. In Firm Structure and Production, studio formats and operational options are discussed.  Examples reviewed. 
6. In Ownership Transition, ways to preserve the legacy of your firm is described.

Please note that a minimum of 15 delegates are required for this Workshop to be held.
